    Lost wallet #2
I wasn't going to blog about this but, here I am. I have lost my wallet on Sunday. On Monday all the offices were closed and I couldn't do anything about it. Even though I was hopeful, no one called me to return my wallet. Which I thought was weird since I should have a good wallet karma due to the fact that just 3 weeks ago I helped a girl to find her wallet back :P.

On Tuesday I canceled my cards and get my new work badge + new debit card and new driving license after a full day of work.

But this post is not about that wallet. Yesterday I lost my 2nd wallet. I had in it my new cards. And so far I have no news about it :(.

Patrick Louise and his 3 dollars
I just got a man ringing my bell. He got himself locked out of his condo and needed 3 dollars for the lock smith. He also added details about how his, he was black, white boyfriend was also working for Microsoft.

I told him I will be back in a minute, I got my glasses on, and got my wallet, and my keys. I put my shoes and started leaving the house, locking the door. He asked what I was doing and I told him that I was coming with him to pay the lock smith.

Then he said, he has his car downtown and he needed to get to his car to have it unlocked or something like that. I asked him how he was going to go to downtown if he doesn't have any money. He said he will catch the bus. I told him I catch the bus with him.

He asked if I would not trust him to give him 3 dollars. I told him I walk with him to get him food or booze but I wouldn't give him money.

    He left...

    Sad...

    Hal is back!
http://hal.gotdns.org is back! Now it is serving in my new home.

Also I have my home network completed. It has been pretty cool. I am using wireless for laptops, cat5e (inside walls) to stream media from servers to my xbox ;). During the process I have learned how to wire RJ45(ethernet) male/female and RJ11(phone) jacks. It was fun.

Lost your Windows XP password? Or some how got your self locked out of the system?
If you want to entertain yourself on how I got my self locked out of my Laptop read following little story or just read the last paragraph.

Yesterday I installed an older game to my laptop. The game was fun but it required the numerical pad keys (In bigger keyboards they are the keys on the right hand side.). But unfortunately my laptop does not have specific keys assigned for numerical pad keys. On my laptop I have to enable num-lock and press a key (Fn) and on "m" or "o" etc. to use the numerical keys :(.

So I have made a quick search on internet and found this cool tool called: sharpkeys.

This is a really useful little tool which lets you re-map your keys on your keyboard. E.g. you can re-map left shift to "Caps-lock". What this tool actually does is creating a little entry in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard) which defines these mappings(Scancode Map)

So being a computer savvy person I backed up my registry and running the tool I have mapped my regular keys (e.g "m","o" etc) to numeric keys. Then the tool told me to logoff or reboot so that the new key mappings can take place. I quickly logged off. And I suddenly realized what I have done. I tried to enter my password to log-in and got an error message saying that my password was incorrect. I pressed ctrl+alt+del and go into the legacy log-in screen and used the user name space to see how my password types(your password is not written on the screen). What I have seen was telling me that the mapping already took place. So I had certain letters of my keyboard gone for the good. And the problem is all the users on my machine has 1 or 2 or more of these keys in their password!. What I should have done was to map the numerical key pad keys to original keys so that I had a way to type "m" or "o" or "i".

Then I tried several things, and all failed :(. Unfortunately windows does not have a single safe boot option which does not use on screen login screen. Then I tried to recover the OS with the installation CD. I have been able to create a command prompt and see my directory includes. Yet in recovery console THERE IS NO TOOL THAT ONE CAN USE TO EDIT REGISTRY!!!. Argh!.

Then I decided to start the good-old-linux installed on my laptop. And rebooted to kubuntu. After configuring the network for my new home's settings I did do a quick internet search and found a tool called: ntpasswd.

I quickly installed "ntfs-3g" (so that I can write into ntfs), and "ntpasswd". Mounted my windows partition to access it "rw", and run the ntpasswd. This way I have been able to reset my user password, log-in back, and do the right key mapping :).

In brief if you have your XP, win2000, etc. password lost go to: "http://freshmeat.net/projects/chntpw/" :)

    I need an ISP
Yet it seems to be that all ISP's are turned into bunch of a**holes! I tried QWEST yesterday and I am returning it today. The damn thing would not give me an internet address. It just supports internet access via NAT (aka IP masquerade). This won't work for me since I want to run a web server and don't want to hack things around to much :P.

I was considering returning to ComCast but I am reading all sort of port blocking horror stories :P.

    DONE!
Done! I am done with my military duty. This was something which affected my life a great deal for a very long time. Just to give an example: if there wasn't any military duty thing I wouldn't be working in USA for 6 years :P.

Yet now it is out of my way :)

1 week over 2 more to go
I am right now in a hotel in the town where my military base is. The first week of my military training was not that easy but not that hard either. It sucks to loose your freedoms but my friends in my platoon are nice people, and the food is not bad either.

Next 2 weeks will be easier now that I am more used to being a soldier and to the military base. I just got a bit sick yesterday. But my family is here and they are taking good care of me. Hopefully I will recover fully by Sunday, before I return my military life again.

The only thing which sucks big time is that I can not spin poi. I wish I could sneak some sock pois in, but I don't want to risk any punishment which might effect my release time.

Oh, by the way soldiers count in Turkey their release time in days and call it "Dawn".

    Dawn 15 :),

    Back to the renting/roommates Market
Well, originally I was going to move into the new 1 Bedroom my land-lady is remodelling. But 2 days ago I learned that the 1 bedroom I was going to move in is going to be a very small studio. Also my current apartment is already rented to others. This means I don't have a place to move in.

For now I will put my stuff into a storage and will be staying with my girlfriend, but I need to find a place to live as soon as possible.

So if you know of a 1 bedroom place in Capitol Hill between the price range 800 to 1050$s I would be super glad to know about :).

Also I am considering roommate, given that we are compatible, situation as well. I would prefer 2,3,4 peeps, again in Capitol Hill, and a price range of 550$ to 900$s.

If you have any leads please contact me.

    cheers,

    I'll be a soldier! Yay!
I got my papers from the US Turkish Consulate. If everything goes right, I will be doing my obligatory millitary duty in this coming April! Now I have to wait and see if my application will be accepted in Turkey.

Yeah, this means that my 11 year long hair will be cut short... Very.

P.S: Maybe I should auction my hair-cut or hair and donate the money to a charity :P

I need a new roommate ASAP to move in with me on March
After thinking about my situation I decided to give a try to keep my apt. Yet I need a good, compatible roommate. Any recommendations?

I need a new place to live (in Cap. Hill)
Some of you already know my roommate S. He is a really cool guy and I have been living with him since more than 4 years now. But soon things will be changed. He will be married on March and move out on end of Febuary.

And because of this I will need to find a new place by end of February.

I am looking for a 1 bd apt, or a good shared house situation in Capitol Hill. If you have any clues please contact me.

    cheers,
